I've been trying to think what these railings look like and I finally got there - the Knights of St John on the left and the fleur de lys. Were they somewhere significant?
I have never thought of it that way. To me these are just typical of the decoration on railings. I doubt they have any significance, but the French were involved in days past with Scotland, but the Knights would have been dumped during the reformation.
