1919. I went to a very small village church in England once and on the wall was a tribute to those who had died from that church in World War I. There were so many names I could hardly believe it. (I might have told you this before but it left such a deep impression on me, I will never forget it.)
Kay almost all the churches of the time will have one of those. Sometimes a plaque on the wall, sometimes a gate or cross in the grounds. These were not just for the members but often reflect the village, district or town in which the church stands.
Thank goodness for monuments, we should never forget.
